10th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention

The 10th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action & Disaster Prevention (CADP)will be held in conjunction with the ABU AI Forum 2026, bringing together two important platforms that address the future of media in an increasingly climate vulnerable and technologically evolving world.

The Asia-Pacific region continues to face growing climate risks and natural disasters. In this context, public service media plays a vital role in delivering reliable information, strengthening early warning systems, and helping communities become more resilient. At the same time, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the broadcasting industry, creating new opportunities for innovation in newsroom operations, content delivery, and emergency communication.

Since 2014, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has organised the Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention to equip broadcasters with the knowledge, tools, and partnerships needed to respond effectively to climate and disaster challenges.

The 2026 edition, hosted by Bhutan Broadcasting Service Corporation Limited (BBSCL) in Paro, Bhutan, will bring together media leaders, climate and disaster response authorities, scientists, and civil society to strengthen collaboration and accelerate action for resilience.

The Summit will focus on two main areas:

Media for Climate Action & Disaster Risk Prevention

  • Climate change reporting and science-based journalism
  • Disaster preparedness and response communication
  • Multi-hazard early warning systems
  • Combating climate misinformation
  • Inclusive disaster risk reduction communication

AI for Broadcasting & Natural Emergencies

  • AI-powered newsroom workflows
  • Automated content production and localisation
  • AI-driven early warning systems
  • Predictive analytics for disaster risk assessment
  • AI-supported fact-checking and multilingual emergency alerts

The Summit will conclude with the Paro Declaration on Intelligent Media for Climate Resilience and Safer Communities. This declaration will outline commitments by ABU members to strengthen responsible AI use in broadcasting, enhance emergency communication, and further advance the Media Saving Lives initiative

Adding to the significance of the event, the Gala of the ABU Together for People, Planet, Peace (T4P) Media Awards will take place on 17 June 2026. The awards will recognise outstanding productions that inspire climate action, peacebuilding, and social resilience.
